Job description

Are you an Engineer looking to develop your career and work on the most complex and capable Warship that DE&S has ever procured?

This is an exciting opportunity to be a key member of the Ship Acquisition Type 26 Global Combat Ship (T26 GCS) team. The Type 26 Global Combat ship is the latest in a long line of maritime capability generation for the Royal Navy. With a multi-role mission bay and a flight deck capable of landing a range of large helicopters, it will provide the capability and flexibility to compete in both modern and future threat environments. This role will manage a team providing assurance of the structural completeness of the ship as well as the early stages of outfit through to ship launch (Float off), in preparation for the commencement of commissioning activities.

Please be advised that attendance at the stated site will be required and should live within commuting distance of Scotstoun as this job offers limited opportunity to Work From Home at an agreed schedule with the Delivery Manager.

Please note, these are demanding roles with activities that may include, but are not limited to, climbing vertical ladders, working at height and in confined spaces – suitable training will be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Managing a team of engineers to deliver contractual acceptance goals
  • Managing the delivery against pre-defined engineering technical requirements
  • Responsible for execution and maintenance of relevant Engineering Management Plans
  • Interpreting and applying appropriate Defence and international standards
  • Applying technical risk management techniques within a ship build environment
  • Providing test and evaluation recommendations to technical decision makers
  • Identifying appropriate sources of evidence to inform technical decision making and seek advice if necessary

Person specification

To be successful with your application, you’ll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • A minimum of a HNC qualification (e.g., Level 4) in an engineering subject, or equivalent relevant experience
  • Experience working with multi-discipline teams and a variety of stakeholders including contractors
  • Experience in Naval Architecture or Systems or Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferably in a maritime domain
  • Member of a relevant Professional Engineering / Science Institute or equivalent body
