We are currently recruiting for an Environmental Advisor for our client SP Energy Networks based in Glasgow City Centre. Job Purpose Statement To provide expert support within SP Energy Networks on environmental compliance management activities through the development and implementation of Environmental controls as part of the SPEN Integrated Management System. Giving assurance on SPEN s compliance with ISO(phone number removed) and environmental legislation and supporting the business in meeting its environmental and social obligations and commitments across all activities. Accountability Statements Provide specialist environmental support to the SPEN Licences with lead responsibility for one area of environmental management to enable the Licence Directorates and ENET to meet their Environmental commitments and obligations. In particular to: •Communicate SP Energy Networks statutory environmental obligations to business functions. Coordinate and support their actions to deliver our environmental strategies. •Advise ENET on and respond to consultation on matters of Environmental regulation and future Environmental Policy – with National Governments, DTI, Local Authorities, statutory bodies and stakeholders – on behalf of SP Energy Networks. •Proactively influence Environmental Regulators and promote the position of the ScottishPower group. •Liaise with other corporate businesses on environmental and compliance issues providing expertise to the wider group when required. For example Respond to external EMF enquiries providing expert advice and proactive management of enquirers, complainants and statutory bodies. Manage business wide environmental initiatives and projects, commissioning specialist contractors as required e.g. Phase 1/2 contaminated land surveys. Represent the Environmental view in technical and business forums promoting integration of environmental protection into operating standards and arrangements. Support the selection and management of specialist environmental consultants so that the responsible persons can act as informed clients. Develop a Training Needs Analysis covering all of SPENs operational needs for environmental protection and compliance and provide training on a range of environmental topics to all levels of staff. Develop and maintain environmental management controls, policy and procedures to ensure an ISO14001 certified management system is in force in SPEN. In particular to; •Maintain the environmental elements of the Integrated Management System •Minimise and mitigate the risk of breaches in environmental consents and prosecutions through the development of environment management practices. •Monitor and report project performance. Based on Environmental Impact Assessments / Environmental Statements, mitigation measures or consent conditions. •Develop and maintain the environmental legal and aspects and impacts registers and undertake periodic re assessments. •Develop strategies for prevention, remediation and reporting of environmental incidents including liaison with statutory bodies. •Support the management of significant environmental incidents liaising with responsible SP Energy Networks managers and statutory authorities. •Monitor environmental performance against agreed KPIs, collating and managing information for reporting to internal and external stakeholders. •Manage an environmental internal audit programme and contribute to integrated and other management systems. •Provide communications regarding environmental compliance and resource efficiency. Skills, Knowledge & Experience •Knowledge of environmental legislation with expertise in one or more of Industrial environmental management Environmental policy and strategy implementation Waste, contaminated land, water, waste water, wildlife or energy management regulation Environmental risk and impacts evaluation. •Experience in development, implementation, use and auditing of Management Systems preferably environmental management systems and ISO14001 •Basic knowledge of health and safety legislation. •In depth knowledge of environmental legislation, regulatory guidance and standards. •Working Knowledge of project management techniques •Experience in a utility operational environment would be advantageous. Minimum Criteria Criteria Essential/Desirable •HNC or Degree in an environmental, science or engineering discipline or qualified by experience •Willingness and ability to travel across SPEN Licence areas on a regular basis. •Postgraduate environmental qualification (eg Diploma) would be advantageous •Associate / Full Membership of IEMA or CEnv would be advantageous •Lead Auditor Certificate (IEMA or equivalent) not essential •Understanding of the utility environment not essential
