Contract: Temporary/Fixed Term
Duration: Up to 3 Years With Possibility of Extension. This will be reviewed annually.
Location: Headquarters/Hybrid
Salary: £341 per day
Hours of work
Part Time: 10 days per year minimum. Additional ad hoc days may be required, as agreed, from time to time.
Job Purpose
To make the best possible decisions we need diverse, inclusive and compassionate leadership with Non-Executive Directors providing appropriate challenge and support on competing, complex and collaborative priorities. You will work with the Advisory Board on the strategic planning of the SPS to ensure that the needs of those in our care are fully considered and that our services are focused on responding to those needs. You will support us establish clear objectives to deliver the agreed strategic plans, monitor performance, and respond appropriately with any changes that are required.
Responsibilities

You will support, and challenge where appropriate, the Chief Executive and Directors of the SPS to ensure that the leadership team conforms to the highest standards of corporate and quality governance and makes appropriate decisions to ensure the best use of financial resources to maximise benefits
You will hold managers to account for identifying and managing risk within their defined areas of responsibility, and ensuring risk strategies are fit for purpose, monitored and evaluated.
You will have the opportunity to play a part in delivering against the wider justice strategy for Scotland and beyond and will keep informed of the views of our key external stakeholders including: The Scottish Government, HMIPS, MSPs and media and take a proactive approach to understanding the Justice context within which SPS operates and the interdependencies within the Justice sector. You will also develop an understanding of the growing complexity of the prison population with a broad understanding of the competing demands on balancing acute health needs, human rights, risks and safety.

Person Specification

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Requirements
Strategic Experience
Strategic experience ideally at a senior level across a wide range of business delivery with specific experience in any of the following areas: Finance/Corporate Governance & Capital Programmes, Digital Transformation, Health/Social Care Delivery
Diversity & Inclusion
Understanding of diversity and inclusion as business-critical issues in a modern society
Political Agility
Ability to exercise political agility and understand the environment within which the SPS operates and engages with Scottish Government, the wider justice sector, the voluntary and community sector, NHS and other public services and other stakeholders
