The opportunity
Torness Power Station are recruiting for a Safety Rules instructor to manage and help deliver our safety rules training and industrial safety training. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual to combine their passion for training and technical expertise and contribute to our ability to produce electricity both reliably and safely at a nuclear power station. The position would allow the right individual to demonstrate and develop not only their technical and instructor qualities but also develop their leadership skills in this high visibility role.
Pay benefits & Culture
The salary range associated with this role is between £40,069 to £84,892 with terms and conditions covered by the EDF Nuclear Generation Company Agreement. However, the starting salary for this appointment will be within the range of £40,069 to £71,779 dependant on the successful candidate’s competence, experience and qualifications.

What you’ll be doing
This role reports directly to the Training Group head within the Torness Performance Improvement Department.
- Developing, delivering and facilitating initial and refresher safety rules training for our people who hold safety rules authorisations.
- Supporting Site Certified line instructors with delivery of safety rules training.
- Overseeing the safety rules training programme ensuring station training demand is met, compliance is maintained and company standards are adhered to.
- Working closely with the line and safety rules champion to identify areas for improvement whilst applying the company’s systematic approach to training.
- Overseeing the Industrial safety training programme, ensuring station training demand is met, compliance is maintained and company standards are adhered to.
- Working closely with the line and Industrial safety Engineer to identify areas for improvement applying the company’s systematic approach to training.
- Supporting Site Certified line instructors with delivery of industrial safety training
- Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and guidance to reinforce fundamental work practices, error prevention techniques, and technical knowledge to improve individual and plant performance.
- Provide advice and guidance on relevant training matters with particular reference to Site Licence requirements, statutory regulations, subject matter expertise and company training objectives
Who you are
The ideal candidate will have a strong safety rules background and held senior safety rules roles. Previous instructor experience is an advantage however training will be given to the right candidate who has a passion for training. Experience in, nuclear and/or electrical generation is desirable. You will hold a qualification at HNC level (or equivalent) as a minimum, in a relevant engineering or technical discipline.
The applicant will be able to demonstrate clear leadership qualities and excellent communication skills with confidence liaising with both internal and external stakeholders and run engaging training activities.
Key to this role will also be excellent planning skills and thinking creatively, using your knowledge of the training cycle to develop lesson plans and training guides to meet the needs of our teams.
