Chief Executive Officer Location: Hybrid – blended working between home, VANL office and community venues in North Lanarkshire Contract Type: Permanent Hours: 35 hours per week (as required) Salary: £57,000 to £62,500, with starting point depending on experience Would you like to help our community and voluntary sector support local people and communities more effectively? About Us: Voluntary Action North Lanarkshire (VANL) is a major charitable organisation which provides support to community and voluntary organisations across the whole of North Lanarkshire. VANL is one of 32 Third Sector Interfaces (TSIs) in Scotland and a registered charity. Before applying for this role please take time to read the job pack & job descriptions Chief Executive Officer Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership Work with staff and trustees to ensure delivery, review, and development of VANL s Strategy by: • developing and delivering appropriate and quality support services for the North Lanarkshire CVS and volunteering • ensuring effective management of the Community Solutions Programme • sustaining and strengthening VANL s infrastructure, systems and processes, including governance, HR, financial and risk management; operations; external communications, and performance management • facilitating shared understanding within VANL of external factors that may impact the charity’s operations, including changes in the regulatory, political, economic, and social environment; developing our capability to respond flexibly to changing conditions; and creating a climate where necessary improvements can be effectively implemented. • ensure effective assessment and reporting of VANL s performance, informed by customer feedback. • Ensuring that VANL s Strategy and performance is effectively communicated to internal and external stakeholders so that the organisation is recognised as a trusted and respected role model within the voluntary and community sector. • Act as the senior spokesperson for VANL. Enabling Governance • Maintain regular and open communication with VANL s board of trustees, including provision of timely and accurate information on VANL s operations, finances and initiatives to support trustee governance. • Collaborate with the Board Chair and sub-committee chairs to plan and prepare for effective board and committee meetings. • Ensure that the decisions made and policies approved by the Board are implemented. • Work with the board to ensure that effective governance practices are in place and that VANL fulfils all legal requirements. External Relationships and Communications • Work with VANL staff to develop and maintain effective relationships with the North Lanarkshire CVS; public agencies serving North Lanarkshire; funders; and other stakeholders such as the TSI Scotland Network; SCVO and Scottish Government. • Ensure effective resourcing, planning and delivery of VANL s external communications, including digital communications and events. Financial Management • Work closely with VANL s Financial Manager and Trustees to ensure effective financial management including budgeting controls and reporting to the Board and funders. People Management • Sustain and improve VANL s positive and supportive work environment for our staff. • Work with VANL s HR and Operations Manager to provide effective leadership of VANL s corporate HR function. Chief Executive Officer Requirements: • Educated to degree standard or equivalent professional qualification. • Ability to pursue the mission and objectives of an organisation with passion and drive and a commitment to continuous learning and improvement. • Inspirational leadership, management, and motivational skills with a balanced approach • Highly organised and personally effective, with good operational and project management skills. • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills., with an ability to persuade and influence in person and in writing. • Strategic thinker with robust analytical skills.
